McCain decided to support an Arizona Affirmative Action Ban.
Obama said he does not support quotas.....hmm. Everyone has something about this issue as always...
So does posh
It’s hard to figure out when Affirmative Action became a race of numbers rather than equality. It surely didn’t start out that way….but then again nothing ever does. When “Affirmative Action” was introduced it was done in the spirit of equally. Colloquially speaking white majority men had all jobs and power and women and people of color got tired of it. So they came up with Affirmative Action and others- both white, black, Hispanic, Asian, Men, Women (all posh of course) – decided to go along with it.
The plan was:
- Give more opportunities to women and people of color
- Give more contracts to women and minority owned businesses
- Break the glass ceiling in corporate America
…… and what it seems like, from Arizona’s newest referendum, these messages were some how lost within people just trying to fill quotas. But, in our opinion, Arizona’ s referendum, is NOT THE ANSWER.
Affirmative action is not an issue that has been frequently addressed on the campaign trail, CNN Reports. (With a black man running for president, this is the ultimate affirmative action plan, lololololol posh digresses)
Asked in April about his stance on affirmative action, McCain said, "it's in the eye of the beholder."
The eye of the beholder? We've heard that beauty is in the eye of the beholder but to be honest there are a lot of both pretty and ugly people walking around dazed and confused because of this exact mantra! Affirmative Action may not be the solution of all race relations, but if executed RIGHT, it certainly doesn’t add to the problem. Removing it from any state’s program is ludicrous. Posh asks those in Arizona, where is the evaluation? How were these “quota’s” executed? Who was in charge of these said programs to make sure that corruption or preferencial treatment did not happen?
Again, we, here at posh are unsure about how affirmative action became a race of numbers, but we would like to engage everyone in conversation to change it! What do you think?
Getting rid of affirmative action will not do away with the race problem. Women still need the same opportuties granted to everyone else. People of color will not go up the social ladder just because Barack Obama is the presumptive Democratic nominee…
Bottom line, we still need affirmative action…
Martini’s up for women and people of color getting equal opportunity
