It's Official!!! VERSACE loves OBAMA but does EVERYONE ELSE?

The power of popular culture, the essence of this blog, and the precursor to the next 5 months was realized today. As reported by ABC News, “on Saturday night, Donatella Versace dedicated her Spring-Summer 2008 collection -- filled with tailored suits and scarves instead of ties -- to the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, BARACK OBAMA, describing the candidate as the ‘man of the moment’". Alluding to the fact that a man not need to flex his muscles – but obviously his wallet- to have/handle power, Versace’s endorsement has been one of the most unusual yet.

Other endorsements or support has been very controversial including Jimmy Carter, Louis Farakan, John Edwards, Al Gore, Congressman John Lewis?????, and even “former rival” Hillary Clinton just to name a few…But my question is, do various endorsements or public support hurt of help Obama? What does it mean when Versace dedicated an entire line to the presumptive nominee? Do sales plummet or sky rocket? Is Obama really the NEW BLACK as stated in an article before, or what?

In my opinion, Obama campaign supporters need to tread this line very carefully. A lot of supporters have admitted to Obama to capturing their hearts, but what about their minds? Those who vote with their emotions are seen as foolish and usually regret it in the end. Think of those congressmen devastated after 9/11. I am sure the vote to go to war wasn’t entirely made with a sound mind, but with an animalistic need to retaliate. And we all know what happened with that decision.

Women have a strong voice this coming November.
We can sway this vote either way.

Let’s vote because of hard facts, evidence, and civic responsibility and not because of the support of a fashion icon.

Did I just say that out loud?

Martinis UP for Donatella Versace
Martinis down for AARP…. Where is your endorsement for McCain….?

Just as Vogue Italia decides to feature an almost ALL BLACK JULY issue in honor of the changes in the FASHION world and the first BLACK presidential NOMINEE, Matthew Biggs of Yahoo! NEWS reports that Democrat Barack Obama's race will complicate his White House bid.

To all the obvious observers in the world, this is not exactly "news".

"They're going to try to make you afraid of me: 'He's young and inexperienced and he's got a funny name. And did I mention he's black?"' Obama said (quoted in article).

No, Barack, you didn't mention that you're black, but we're sure your name gave it away! The sad part about this is the fact that the Republicans don’t have to do anything to highlight this issue. The problem is apparent whether its spoken about directly by opponents or not. Americans are still trying to say the name “Barack Obama” 4 times while reciting the pledge of allegiance, watching the price of oil fluctuate, and wondering when, if ever, we will win the "war on terrorism" all at the same time.

This issue is of race is an old one, but we here at posh recognize its apparent sustainability. It's like a bad trend that just won't away...Speaking of BAD trends... Have you heard fanny packs are back? PRADA just released a new one!! PLEASE people...stop the madness on both accounts! No FANNY PACKS IN 2008! NO WATERED-DOWN RACISM IN 2008! Those campaigns are SO synonomous in our book!

posh applauds the fashion world for taking such a huge step and embracing color and diversity! Why can't the rest of the world follow suit (no pun intended)? Maybe it has something to do with the origin of runway, glam, top model fashion...it began overseas, right? Maybe that's why it still doesn't have the same traditional chains racism and bureacracy that the American government has... It seems crazy to tell our lawmakers to take a hint from great publications like Vogue Italia, but maybe they should...

Maybe EVERYONE SHOULD...In the same Yahoo! News article, there is one sentence in the article that states the McCain’s age seemed more of a concern to survery respondents than Obama’s race. For some reason this didn’t make headlines. Some would argue that it isn't news because everyone already knows that McCain's age is a problem...but everyone already knew that Barack, his wife, and his kids were black, too, right? Now don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with learning some things from an older man, but we just think that McCain's age and any other point of contention should get just as much press as Barack's race. It’s all public opinion, right?

If Naomi Campbell and others can make great strides, why can’t OBAMA?
Maybe Naomi Campbell should run for president!
